Mom diaries: my baby’s signs of independence

Mom diaries: my baby’s signs of independence

I cannot believe it – I just heard my ten months old daughter was offered another bottle [not her own] at creche and she declined it. That is another sign of independence πŸ™‚

I was trying to find my Nelson Mandela apron in the closet this morning – with baby in one hand and her bottle in the other. I put baby down on the bed and her bottle in the closet while I got out this clothing bag.

[My mom taught me back in the day to store winter clothes in a separate department within the closet. Who else does this?]

The reason for the apron this morning? Well, my colleagues are celebrating Halloween at work today. I decided this morning that my costume is ‘The Ultimate Braai Master’. I even got my husband’s braai tools as props.

So my husband informed me this morning that there is a problem at the creche – Princess’ bottle was not in her bag, so the teachers tried to give her milk in another bottle. She was like ‘No, that aint mine’.

I can imagine how Princess shoves her head down as if in pain. This is her latest – she throws tantrums but tipping her head downwards to the floor (almost like she is kneeing and in despair).

To me it’s a funny sight.

The past few weeks I realised how much my firstborn has grown. For example, she has her favourite foods: banana, chicken and yogurt.
I know this because when she is sick, she loses her appetite. The only thing she’ll eat is her favourite foods.

More visible signs of her maturing as a baby:
She dances (or rather bounces up and down) when she hears a song she likes.
She will let me know when she is finished eating – she’ll turn her head away.
She is crawling and standing up more & more on her own.

Ten fingers as my mother would say, meaning ten months old. It’s definitely nice to see how my child is growing up. It’s especially nice hearing her laugh at her own jokes [she laughs when she sees her dad sleeping, or when we pick her up from school.]

How about you – what developments have you enjoyed seeing in your life the past few months? Thank you for reading.

  1. This reminds me of my niece, she turned 2 last month. Love the way they throw those tantrums πŸ˜€

  2. Melanie, I know what you mean πŸ™‚ Those eyes staring at you lovingly, like you’re the most beautiful being in the world – I saw a friend’s 3 or 4 month old stare at her the other day. It’s so cute.

  3. I am glad you are not one of those people who get annoyed at kids throwing tantrums πŸ™‚ because tantrums are such a normal thing hey.
